The Agony

The demons whispered in Christ's ear
as there He hung upon the cross
They teased and taunted saying Satan
soon would be the final boss

The sun beat down and burned His body
blood dripped forth from wounds so fresh
And flies and ants were there tormenting
   biting. . . stinging . . . at His flesh

His hands and feet were pierced by spikes
His nerves were white-hot coals within
Excruciating pain was constant
all the while He bore our sin

He felt God's absence in this test
He bore the stripes for you and me
A greater test of agony and pain
than all the world would ever see

His life was shedding drop by drop
and blood fell freely to the ground
As angry crowds flung forth vile curses-
  stood there mocking all around

But as His last breath uttered
"it is finished - now I come to You"
He asked, "Oh God forgive mankind
for they know not this thing they do"

The Agony at Calvary . . . . .
    the price He paid. . . . .
          the suffering pain. . .
Must bring us to our knees repenting. . .
     don't leave Him hanging there. . .
           . . . . . in vain. . . !!
